In 2019, The University of Zambia (UNZA) transitioned all official print journals to an electronic format using the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. Among the 14 journals now hosted, the UNZA Directorate of Research and Development (DRD) focuses on three—JABS, JLSS, and JONAS—as exemplar journals, ensuring consistent publication. Despite regular publications, the three DRD journals face key challenges: Workflow Delays, Poor Metadata Quality, Non-Standardized Workflows and Lack of Guidelines. This project is funded by by The Electronic Information for Libraries (EIFL), African Journals Online (AJOL) and The West and Central African Research and Education Network (WACREN), and aims to pilot establishing an Editorial Support Office to create sustainable and efficient online journal ecosystems at UNZA, leveraging the DRD journals to set a standard for other UNZA journals.
